Core Curriculum

At GSPS we use the following instructional practices that align with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0.

Direct Instruction (DI) is where teachers deliver classroom content using a script and new knowledge is added incrementally. At GSPS in Yrs Prep – 2, we use the Heggerty program to teach Phonemic Awareness.

Explicit instruction means that the actions of the teacher are clear, structured and direct, lessons include activating prior knowledge, scaffolded learning and modelled practice. At GSPS we teach new concepts explicitly across all areas of the Curriculum.

Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) is characterised by carefully planned and sequenced lessons, clear and detailed instructions and modelling, and frequent and systematic monitoring of student progress. At GSPS we use EDI for the teaching of mathematics.
