Equal Opportunity Policy

 

PURPOSE.

 

1.1  In keeping with the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act 1995, Grey St. Primary School aims to:

·        Promote recognition and acceptance of everyone's right to equality of opportunity

·        Eliminate discrimination against students and staff by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of particular attributes

·        Provide redress for staff and students who are discriminated against

·        Provide an environment free from sexual harassment

 

GUIDELINES

 

2.1  At Grey Street Primary School, it is unlawful to directly or indirectly   

      discriminate against staff and students on the basis of:

·        Age

·        Lawful sexual activity\ sexual orientation

·        Industrial activity,

·        Marital\ parental or carer status

·        Disability, physical features or pregnancy

·        Political beliefs or activity

·        Race or Gender

·        Religious beliefs

·        Personal association with a person who is identified by reference to any of the above.

2.2  It is unacceptable to discriminate against students on the basis of financial 

             status.

 

2.3  All subjects, facilities and equipment provided by the school will be available    

      and accessible to all students.

 

2.4 Gender inclusive teaching practices will be encouraged and developed.

 

IMPLEMENTATION

3.1  Strategies for implementation will focus on the Victorian Equal Opportunity          

       Act,1995. These strategies will include-

·        Appointment of an Equal Opportunity Officer

·        A process for redress for staff and students who are discriminated against

·        Professional development programs for staff (Merit and Equity)

·        Awareness raising for students and the school community through the newsletter.

·        Curriculum development and delivery to raise awareness of non-gender specific roles and anti-harassment.

·        Equal role models will be promoted by demonstrating cooperative and non-sexist roles, attitudes and practices.

EVALUATION

 

5.1  Evaluation will form part of the annual review through each Key Learning Area. KLA reviews include gender inclusiveness.
